Every set below is shown step by step, from the first part to the finished look. Choose a category, then tap any photo to walk through the process.
Jason started with 64 locs. Every loc was mapped out and the parts were cleaned up square from the crown to the nape, ready for the combination work.
The 64 locs were reparted down to 12 even sections. Fewer, fuller sections mean each new loc carries more hair and holds a cleaner shape at the root.
Each section is distressed so the hair relaxes and mats together before it is combined. This is what gives the finished loc a smooth, full body.
The sections are merged with a crochet hook. The hook pulls the hair back through the base of the loc, so the combination locks in at the root and blends through the length.
The finished set: 12 full locs, reparted square, combined and blended at the root. This is the look Jason left with.
Travis came in with locs matted at the roots. This is the set before any work started, so you can see the matting and new growth we were working with.
A second look at the matting at the scalp before the parts were cleaned up and the set was reparted.
The set was reparted into clean square sections and the thinner locs were combined, so the locs read even from the crown down.
The finished set: reparted, reattached where needed and combined into full, even locs from root to end.
